Today, we thank the seventh Duchess of Bedford, Anna Russell
for the pleasant tradition that is Afternoon Tea. During the Victorian times,
the evening meal was served fashionable late in the Duchess’ home, thus at
around 8pm. At around 4pm, the Duchess would become hungry and requested that a
tray of tea, bread and butter and cake to be brought into her room in the late
afternoon
1. Oh Me Oh My
Oh Me Oh My is what could be defined as a ‘grand tea house’
located in a former bank building conflicting to the well-known Mersey skyline
landmark, The Royal Liver Building.
High tea diners can select their preferred tea blend from a
box. The loose leaf tea then comes served in a clear pot. However, you can opt
for a bubblier type of accompaniment to your mini crème brulee and sandwiches.
Oh Me Oh My offers both Prosecco and Champagne Afternoon Tea.
2. Jam
There are 26 dissimilar types of loose tea and 8 different
Afternoon Tea options to choose from. The city center restaurant and cocktail
bar even offers Afternoon Tea for one, if perhaps you are dining alone, or your
companion isn’t too fussed on the idea, genius!
Expect sandwich rolls, sweet treats, and homemade scones,
jam (of course) and clotted cream. Jam also offers vegetarian afternoon tea and
once again, the special of Afternoon Tea and Prosecco.
3. Panoramic 34
Panoramic Located on the 34th floor of Liverpool’s tallest
city building, Panoramic offers just that, unrivalled panoramic views of the
city to accompany your Afternoon Tea date. ‘High life’ diners can appreciate
afternoon Tea in either the Cocktail Lounge or Restaurant, reliant on menu
choice. Luxury Afternoon Tea that includes a glass of Nye timber Rose Glittering
Wine or Perrier Jouet Champagne can be relished in the Cocktail Lounge or
Restaurant
4. Cuthberts Bakehouse
Cuthberts is a family run bakehouse, located on Mount
Pleasant, just a short walk from the city center. The Family has now been
baking fresh, homemade cakes for 8 years and has become quite famous for their
afternoon tea. Obliged in beautiful vintage china, accompanied by locally
sourced loose leaf tea or even Cuthbert’s very own blend this is a real
artisanal, traditional.
